Subaru’s Great Australian Detour Kids’ Cast

Subaru Australia

Ready to discover what makes Australia so great? Well, buckle up and lets go!

The Brief

Subaru Australia wanted to build on the success of their Great Australian Detour (GAD) television series, and investment in engaging content for families. So, they approached SoundCartel to produce a podcast that also encouraged driving holidays and exploration of some of the great food, places, animals and experiences that Australia has to offer. An opportunity for kids and families, to listen together in the car, or wherever they might be, together.
The Approach
For The Great Australian Detour Kids’ Cast, we scripted each episode based on topics that kids would find interesting and fun, and that offered some call-back to the GAD TV series, including Andrew Daddo as host. Topic experts on great white sharks, bees, ice cream and lights from the ocean were woven into Andrew’s own discovery and masterful story telling. We also included a quiz at the end of each of episode to encourage kids to listen and follow along. A mix of fun music, sound effects and great editing make this a really enjoyable family friendly listen. It’s also a great resource for kids’ learning, and of course a wonderful guide to some incredible spots around Australia! In an effort to precisely target families, Subaru chose to the split the 8-episode series over the June and September school holidays, with four episodes releasing during the winter holiday and the remaining four over the spring holidays.
The RESULT
The podcast launched on June 20 so it’s early days, but there’s much excitement at Subaru around the podcast with dedicated resources going into marketing the podcast across – digital, social, email and podcast apps.
“The team at SoundCartel have been great partners on the journey to deliver Subaru’s Great Australian Detour Kids’ Cast. They shared our passion to deliver this project from the briefing stage and have provided expertise, support and guidance throughout the development, production and post-production process. With Nicole’s great work and patience through script development, her sourcing of excellent guest interviews, and then the application of Pete’s insightful and playful treatment of music and sound FX, we are delighted with the content and quality of the results.”
