Isn't it time to shift the way you think about your super?

Cbus Super Shift Podcast

The Brief

Cbus is an Industry Super Fund that sits in the top 10 of Australia’s biggest Superannuation Companies. But the industry has a problem; a lack of activity, understanding and urgency by members to take an active role in monitoring their accounts, and growing their balance for when they finally reach retirement age.Largely, they’re just not sure where to start, tend to get overwhelmed and stop trying. So much so that most Australians with a superannuation fund have no idea if they’re on track for the retirement they want.Attempting to make superannuation and retirement interesting, and create behaviour change is no easy feat, but Cbus wanted to try. They briefed SoundCartel to create a podcast that makes Super simple and accessible for members and empowers them with greater confidence to ask questions and agency to make manage their financial future. The prime audience for the podcast is Cbus Super members aged 50+, people heading towards retirement or already there, often with low super balances and limited financial literacy.
The Approach
The name – Cbus Super Shift, was developed by Cbus. The tag line – Shift the way you think about your Super – from SoundCartel, almost wrote itself. Hinting at the kind information they’ll be hearing as well as call to action to get involved in your retirement future.During the strategy session it was decided that the host needed to be down to earth and approachable tone — something to make super feel simple, accessible and relevant, rather than technical or overwhelming.By using a conversational host-led format, the podcast was able to reflect the questions many members may have themselves, while drawing out easy-to-understand information from CBUS experts.Deciding on the interview narrative format meant we could position the more fact-based information in a way that was easier to understand, and a bit more interesting.Keeping each episode to around 20 min and including Vox Pops from Super members were some other ways we wanted to maintain audience interest. This podcast was always going to be challenging from a compliance and approvals perspective – it’s about Superannuation after all.And indeed, even more time was needed to accommodate the screening and review process. That said, Cbus have been a wonderful client, a true partner in developing the Super Shift podcast. They are of course eagle-eyed for detail, which we love, and still allowed us to create and produce as we know how.Cbus have also put a vast number of resources into the launch and promotion of the podcast, from developing strong artwork to creating digital marketing campaigns and PR, which goes a tremendous way to getting the podcast out to as many ears as possible.
The RESULT
Launched on Wednesday 26 November 2025, the podcast has been extremely well received by members and those in the industry.
“Producing the CBUS Super Shift podcast was a rewarding project, and one that SoundCartel expertly guided us through. We couldn’t be happier with the result. We wanted to create a new way for our members to shift the way they think about their Super, helping to teach them about the tools and resources CBUS has to support their retirement journey. The episodes themselves are short, interesting and packed with great information from CBUS members and our expert Coordinator and Advice teams. Nicole Goodman and the whole team at SoundCartel were real partners on this production, very professional and so supportive, nothing was ever an issue. A brilliant experience.“
